A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for Central Indiana at 4pm today and expires at 5am Saturday morning. Very slick conditions are expected to develop as snow, sleet and freezing rain move into the state.
Highs will only reach the mid 20s today and we could see snow/sleet/light freezing rain develop by the afternoon. If you are traveling this afternoon or tonight, plan on very slippery roads across the state, no matter what type of precipitation you come across.
Chuck Lofton’s forecast calls for around an inch to two inches in the city, 1-2 inches in near north counties and 2-3 inches from Lafayette to Muncie, a few heavier pockets may be found too. The Indy metro may have sleet mixed in with those snow accumulations and light icing too. South of I-70 light freezing rain looks possible.
The freezing rain is the biggest concern, because with temps below freezing, the ice will make things slick fast.
The wintry mix and snow will end overnight.
Saturday, highs look to warm above freezing, so that will help with the melting of any ice that does form.
Check out what’s ahead in the 7 day… we warm up nicely… and we have a few chances of rain in the forecast. We could even hear rumbles of thunder Sunday night!
