Rain is Finally Here… Chance for Severe Storms Today

By · August 9, 2012 at 6:52 am

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are setting up in Central Indiana this morning.  Some spots have picked up more than an inch of rain.  We need it, and the rain will stick around today.

This morning we’ll see scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Frequent lightning and heavy rain is likely.

We should get a break in the action late morning and early afternoon.  With clearing skies the temp will shoot in to the mid 80s.  This will also help the atmosphere become more unstable for another round of showers and thunderstorms expected to develop late this afternoon into tonight.

Central Indiana is under a slight risk for severe storms.  Damaging wind is the main threat, but we can’t rule out large hail.  Of course heavy rain and frequent lightning will be a threat too.  Storms will likely fire up late today into tonight.

Friday, wrap around moisture is possible from this system through midday as temps only hit the mid 70s.  We should see drier air move in as we go later into your Friday afternoon.

The weekend is looking fantastic!  Highs in the upper 70s to around 80 with sunshine.

Next week we’ll watch the temps stay near normal, then return close to 90 for the middle of the week.
