Heavy Rain… and Accumulating Snow for Central Indiana

By · February 24, 2011 at 6:43 am

This forecast is going to be a busy one, so let’s get right to it!

Today, highs will hit the low 40s with temps falling into the afternoon.  Steady rain showers will develop this afternoon into tonight, especially south of I-70.  That’s where the heaviest rain is expected to fall.  By tonight, an inch of rain is likely, with up to 1.5″ of rain in our Southern counties.

Early Friday morning, the rain turns to snow, and a period of freezing rain may be possible.  We have multiple winter weather advisories, watches, and warnings in place, so click here to see how your town is impacted.

In the Indy metro 3-5″ of snow is possible during Friday morning’s commute.  The farther north you go, the heavier the snow gets.  In our northern viewing area up to 8″ of snow is possible, and maybe a few inches more in isolated pockets.  Click here to see where the heaviest snow will fall.  Winds will gust up to 30 mph, so it’s going to be a messy start to your Friday morning.

We have a busy pattern setting up for the weekend too.  Check out the 7 day forecast below.  We’ll really be focused on Sunday night into Monday, when more heavy rain could set up over the state.

Starting Tuesday… we begin a quieter weather pattern… so just wait until then if you want sunny skies and a dry forecast.
