Accumulating Snow on the Way

By Nicole Misencik· February 3, 2010 at 8:23 am

Highs today will reach the mid 30s around Central Indiana with a mix of sun and clouds.

Thursday, sun and clouds will again be in the forecast with highs reaching close to 40 degrees.

Now, for the tricky and interesting part of today’s weather blog.  We have a developing winter weather system forming in the Gulf right now.  As of right now, it’s tracking into Central Indiana Friday and Saturday.

Friday morning we could see precipitation start off as light rain, or freezing rain, then turn over into all snow by Friday afternoon.   The snow machine looks to get going late Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.  At this point, and I always emphasize that this is preliminary, it looks like 4-7 inches of snow is possible by Saturday mid-morning.  A lot of things can change the snow amounts with this system.  If we start off with more rain and it takes longer for it to turn to snow, snow totals will be reduced.  If the track of the system changes we will have different totals.

It will be important to keep up to date with the forecast over the next few days, as changes will be likely as we get closer to our next winter weather event.

Thanks for your update, Nicole. I have to take a group of dancers to Crawfordsville Saturday, so I’m very interested about the upcoming weather conditions.
