Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be likely across Central Indiana today. Some storms may be strong to severe with damaging wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Highs will reach 76 today, the normal high is 75. Winds will gust out of the southwest up to 25mph.

Thursday scattered showers are in the forecast before we finally dry out Friday and Saturday with much less humidity.

For the 97th running of the Indy 500 temps will be comfortable around 70 degrees with a 20% chance of an isolated shower or storm. We’re keeping a close eye on those rain chances.

More rain and some isolated storms move in Monday and Tuesday.

Some of the warmest air of the season, and since early September, is likely Monday. After some patchy morning fog and low clouds, temperatures will soar in response to a good deal of hazy sun.

The record in Indianapolis Monday is 90 degrees, and should be safe. But high humidity will make it feel like 90°+ tomorrow and Tuesday.

80% of the viewing area will be dry Monday. But it’s possible some weakening showers may approach western Indiana before noon tomorrow. Stronger storms may develop Monday evening/night…possibly impacting the northwestern corner of the state (including Lafayette, Kokomo).

Better storm chances arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, with large hail/damaging wind possible. Pleasantly cool air sinks southward late week… setting us up for a spring-like conditions Friday/Saturday. Long-range model guidance is shows the possibility of showers or storms for Race Day next Sunday. For now it’s just a chance… much can, and will change in the forecast the next 7 days. Check back for updates.

It's starting to feel a lot like summer around central Indiana.

It’s starting to feel a lot like summer around central Indiana.

Highs will reach the mid 80s today with muggy conditions. For the most part, we’ll see partly cloudy skies, but there is a 20% chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm, especially in east and southeast central Indiana. Our normal high this time of year is 74, so we’ll hit about 10 degrees above that.

Tonight we remain warm and muggy as temps only fall into the mid 60s.

Monday we will be close to record highs! I’m forecasting a high of 88, the record is 90 from 1977. An isolated shower or storm is possible Monday afternoon and Monday night.

Tuesday we could see strong to severe storms. Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for the latest on the stormy timing. Scattered showers and storms will likely continue off and on through Thursday.

As of right now Friday and Saturday look cool and dry… the running of the Indy 500 should be cool in the 70s, and mainly dry. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer to race!

Hazy sun, sticky highs in the 80s and slim rain chances highlight the 48 hour forecast. Isolated showers this evening will quickly diminish as the sun sets. As mid-level clouds and wind fade after dark, areas of locally dense fog will develop early Sunday morning.

Areas of morning fog/low cloud overcast will give way to hazy sunshine Sunday, and temperatures respond rapidly to the brighter finish.

Definitely pack the sunscreen and shades if you’re heading out to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Bump Day…with just a very slim chance of shower or storm late day.

Highs Sunday will be a good 10 degrees above normal, and likely even warmer Monday… nearing 90 degrees in most backyards!

The atmosphere Monday will be mostly “capped” and the main lifting mechanism will be well to our west along the Mississippi River. This results in very slim rain chances, and likely the warmest day of the year so far.

The same system producing a multi-day severe weather event in the Plains, will bring widespread rain/heavy storms into Central Indiana Tuesday-Thursday. There are signs that pleasantly dry air (dewpoints in the 40s) returns later next week… “possibly” setting us up for ideal conditions next weekend for the 500 Festival Parade and Indianapolis 500. Much will change in modeling between now and then, so check back for updates.

Highs will reach the upper 70s with winds out of the southeast up to 10mph. Storms will more than likely fire as we head into the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected.

Saturday morning should be mainly dry, with just an isolated shower, with more showers and storms developing as we head into the afternoon.

Sunday will be mainly dry, before showers and storms come back into the forecast Monday, but are more likely Tuesday.
