Submit Your Latest Hoosier Pics

It’s a damp and dreary Monday morning, but if you had a chance to snap a pic this weekend or this morning of the rain, a trip to the Christmas tree farm, holiday shopping, a family gathering, we want you to share it!  I’ll be featuring a Hoosier Pic on-air today at noon and another at 6pm.

Also…heads up!  We’re going to be starting a Holiday Lights slideshow on wthr.com and would love you to submit your holiday lights photos.

Posting pics is easy:

All you need to do is post on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took over the weekend or today.

To check out the submissions yourself, you can view our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and the photo gallery at wthr.com:  http://iwitness.wthr.com/

Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. at Christmas in the Village with my family in Zionsville).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

Have a great week and I’ll be looking for your Hoosier Pic submissions!

This Week’s Hoosier Pics. Yours Could Be Next!

Did you see this morning’s sunrise?  Some of our WTHR viewers did, and David Lawrence grabbed his camera when he spotted the fiery red sky at dawn.  He took this pic in the Traders Point area on 86th Street and Lafayette.  What a stunning shot!  By the way, this is a great time to throw in some old weather folklore: “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight.  Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.”  In this case, it’s true.  The red sky was a result of high and mid level clouds moving in ahead of a weather system which will likely mean several days of wet weather here in Central Indiana!  Great pic, David!  I featured it as our Hoosier Pic on 13 Eyewitness News at 6 this evening.

Yesterday at 6, Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright featured Bill Beechler’s Hoosier Pic taken at the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s 100 Acres Park.  Ironically, I went there yesterday afternoon too!  (Probably walked right by Bill Beechler).  And I concur, it was a fantastic photo-taking day at the park.  My daughter couldn’t get enough of walking on “Funky Bones!”

And on Thanksgiving Day, Chris Wright gave props to a family affair!  Three generations of Alfreds took to their bikes for a ride on the Monon and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail on Thanksgiving.  We give thanks to Cheryl Alfred for sharing her pic!  Hoosiers take family seriously, and Thursday was a great day to share with loved ones!

Wednesday was cloudy and foggy and cool, but at least the steady rain finally stopped.  Here’s the Hoosier Pic Chris Wright shared with our viewers Wednesday at 6.  You can see the high water on Brandywine Creek after Tuesday’s rain.  Thanks to Yvonne Ballou for the pic!

As for the rain, in Andy Whitehurst’s Irvington rain gauge, the rain nearly reach .8″ Tuesday.  Some areas like Kokomo to the north and Franklin to the south saw more than an inch.  Either way, it was a dreary, damp, and miserable day and Andy’s pic told the weather story…Hoosier Pic style!  Chris Wright featured his pic on WTHR at 6pm Tuesday.

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us and the holiday season officially in swing, I’d love to see some holiday light Hoosier Pics!  You can also shoot pics of people, places, weather, or whatever!

All you need to do is post on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took yesterday or today.

To check out the submissions yourself, you can view our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and the photo gallery at wthr.com:  http://iwitness.wthr.com/

Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. at the Circle of Lights with my family).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

By the way, looks like a soggy stretch of wet weather that could end as a bit of white weather by late Tuesday night/pre-dawn Wednesday.  We’ll have to watch it!  I’ll be doing so with camera in hand!  Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday and I’ll be looking for your Hoosier Pic submissions!

Great Hoosier Pics Despite Our Damp, Dreary Stretch

Who says you can’t take great pictures even when it’s cloudy and damp?

Our wet weather began Saturday with passing showers, continued Sunday with showers and drizzle, lingered on Monday with drizzle all day, and is still going today with some areas of heavy rain.  It’s not the best weather for getting outdoors, but some of you are still snapping pics and sharing them with us!

Today at noon, I featured Ziva, a Siberian husky puppy whose mom Rachel Morgan says her pooch loves playing in the leaves even when there are raindrops on them!

Yesterday at 6, Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright shared this cute pic of two little girls in the leaves…I’m thinking it was taken before it got so wet!  Sarah Groh submitted this pic and says her girls love playing in the leaves even though it’s getting colder.

This pic from Elijah Cope of a winding road at Mill Race Park in Columbus captures the essence of our recent weather – foggy and wet…but also manages to turn it into something beautiful!  I featured Elijah’s submission yesterday at noon.

And Sunday at 6, I shared Frank Hanou’s Hoosier Pic of the Indy skyline against a steel gray sky.  “Good Morning Indy!” he posted along with his pic on our facebook page Saturday morning.

Upload your pic or post it to facebook…we’ll be picking at least one Hoosier Pic each day to feature on-air and online!  I can’t wait to see the pics coming in on Thanksgiving and Black Friday!  If you’re camping out to get great deals…snap a pic and share it!  If you’re playing football between turkey and pumpkin pie…take a photo.  And if you’re heading to one of the many holiday celebrations like the Circle of Lights downtown on Friday…don’t forget your camera!

All you need to do is post on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took yesterday or today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!

To check out the submissions yourself, you can view our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and the photo gallery at wthr.com:  http://iwitness.wthr.com/

Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. jumping in puddles in the rain today with my kids in Greenwood).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

By the way, looks like a GREAT stretch of dry and sunny weather just in time for Travel Day Wednesday, Turkey Day Thursday, and Black Friday!

Got a Good Pic of Today’s Rain? It Could be our Hoosier Pic of the Day!

It’s a dreary and damp end to the weekend, but maybe you’ve had a chance to take some pics despite the rain.  I have to admit I “cheated” with this pic…took it through the window looking out at the rain from the station this afternoon!  I’d love to share one of your submission coming up this evening on WTHR-TV in our 6pm newscast.

Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. today at Monument Circle for the Salvation Army event).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

By the way, looks like HEAVY RAIN possible Tuesday – I’ll have those details in your forecast!

Our Most Recent Hoosier Pics!

Thanks for all your great Hoosier Pic submissions!  Keep ’em coming because we feature at least one photo every day on-air and online!

Today at 6, Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright will share Rachel White’s “Family of Leaves” with our viewers.  I love the creativity it took to create this great pic…especially the “dot” on the i!  I may have to “borrow” this idea next fall when I’m looking for fun photo ideas myself!

Today at noon I featured Carolyn Baldwin’s squirrel preparing for a long, cold winter, perhaps.  It’s definitely that time of year!  Carolyn says she spotted this critter off Kentucky and Lynhurst in Indy.

Yesterday at 6, Chris showed this little critter playing peek-a-boo in a tree.  Thanks to Angie Hardin for posting this pic on our facebook page!  She says the little guy was gathering food for the winter when she spotted him and snapped this pic!

Wednesday’s 11 pm Hoosier Pic was this stunning sky photo from Yorktown, Indiana.  Carissa Adelsperger shared this pic with us on our facebook page and probably got a few “likes” along the way!

And how ’bout this pic that really takes you to another place?  Kelly Mote posted this “Tunnel of Trees” from an old country road in Hancock County.  We like this view best, but she also shared the view looking back the other way on our facebook page.  This was the pic Chris Wright featured Wednesday at 6pm.

Tuesday at 6, Chris shared this pic of a red tailed hawk taken by Brandie Metcalf.  She says the bird came to visit the Marian University campus just in time for her to snap a pic.

And while *most* of our Hoosier Pic features are scenic, Michael Dunbar’s Hoosier Pic I shared with our viewers Tuesday at noon tells a different story.  Remember Monday’s severe weather?  When the storms moved over West Lafayette, they dropped a lot of rain along the way.  Michael says this was the view out his window of what normally is a playing field.  So much rain fell in the storms that it looked more like a retention pond!

We didn’t choose any Hoosier Pics Monday evening (for obvious reasons because of the severe storms rolling through)…instead we were appreciative of the storm pics you shared with us for our regular news and weather coverage!  Before the severe weather, James Worman snapped a shot on Indy’s Westside of our morning storms which I featured Monday at noon as as our Hoosier Pic on-air.

Sunday’s 6pm Hoosier Pic is the envy of all leaf peepers!  Tom McCullough of Indianapolis shot this pic down in Brown County which he called “The Best Driveway in Brown County.”  Yes, Tom…you made us all very jealous!  Thanks for sharing and we love your pic!  I tweeted it to @ILuvBrownCounty as well…and they shared it with their followers on twitter.  What a great season fall is!

So there you have it!  A week’s worth of Hoosier Pic selections.  To see a larger image, just click on the pic!  And hopefully you’ve been inspired to share your pic (or pics) with us too!

Just post on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took yesterday or today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!

Hoosier Pic Honoring Hoosier Vets

Thanks to our Veterans and thank you for sharing their photos and their stories with us!

So many of you took the time to post photos on our facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and submit pics to our WTHR Veterans slideshow http://www.wthr.com/category/201467/support-our-troops.

We decided to share a couple – one present and one past – as our featured Hoosier Pics.

Today at 6pm, I showed Dennis Wright’s photo taken yesterday in Nashville.  He says he nearly missed the shot as this Model-T ambled down the street carrying a casket covered with the stars and stripes.  He didn’t know the story behind the story, but thanks to This Is Brown County for filling us in: “This was the funeral procession of a local veteran, Virgil Keith Floyd. He was being taken from the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home to his final resting place at Duncan Cemetery in a Model T truck. He was a true Brown County character.”  Mr. Floyd, may you rest in peace.

Yesterday at 6pm, Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright shared a Hoosier Pic of the Heck brothers, Tom Heck, Sr. and his brother Louis Heck.  The photo was taken in Germany during World War Two and posted on our facebook wall by Tom Heck, Sr.’s son Jeff.  Jeff tells us “Sadly both men have passed on.”  And we tell Jeff: thanks for helping us honor heroes like the Heck brothers on Veterans Day.

Now that the weekend is here and my guess is, you’ve probably taken a pic or two.  Share it with us!

Just post it on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email it to us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!  I’ll feature one after the football game on the Nightbeat.

To check out the submissions yourself, you can view our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and the photo gallery at wthr.com:  http://iwitness.wthr.com/

Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. today at the Christmas in Pendleton parade).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

Have a good one!

Stormy and Snowy Hoosier Pic Picks!

Grab your camera and get snapping!  We’ve had some great Hoosier Pic submissions…and our wild weather here in the Hoosier state the last few days has certainly helped!

Today at noon I featured Jason Trebley’s pic from last night’s match-up of the 6th graders of New Palestine and Greenfield playing football in the SNOW at Triton Central High School in Fairland.  Talk about showing your Hoosier spirit!  These kids weathered quite an unusual November 10th!  By the way, Jason says New Pal is now 9-0.  Congrats to the team!

I absolutely adore this Hoosier Pic submitted by Jack Goad of Cowan (south of Muncie) which I’ve dubbed “The Littlest Snowman!”  Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright had planned to show it last night at 11pm on the Nightbeat, but somehow the pic got lost in our system.  Still, we love it…so it earns a place in our Hoosier Pic blog!

And when the flakes started to fly yesterday, plenty of Hoosiers like you grabbed your cameras and snapped the snow!  Here’s the Hoosier Pic Chris Wright featured yesterday at 6pm courtesy of Ron McCorkle of Noblesville.  Nothin’ like winter and fall all in one pic…seasons colliding!

And before the snow…it was rain and stormy skies that came to visit the Hoosier State.  Wednesday, this tumultuous sky pic from Marion stole the show…and Chris Wright featured it in our 6pm broadcast.  Thanks to Mimi Parrow for sharing it with us!

Great pics…but we’re not done yet.  We want to see your best pics each and every day!  If you shot it today, share it with us and you might have your Hoosier Pic featured on-air and online!

It’s easy:

Just post it on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email it to us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!

Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright will feature another viewer pic this evening at 6pm (I have a hunch it might be a pic with a Veterans Day theme – thanks Vets!).   To check out the submissions yourself, you can view our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 and the photo gallery at wthr.com:  http://iwitness.wthr.com/

Thanks for sharing your best shots!  Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. today at the Veterans Day parade with my Mom and Dad).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

Take Care!

Here’s the Hoosier Pic I featured today at noon from David Contino.  He took this pic of his girls gazing at the White River from Potter’s Bridge in Noblesville.  Pretty in purple!

And yesterday evening at 6pm, Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright featured another amazing Hoosier Pic.  Kim Duncan shot this pic of her daughter and nephew at Washington Township Park.

Our most recently featured Hoosier Pics!

Ready, set, shoot!  We’ve had some fantastic Hoosier Pic submissions in what we hope will be a regular feature on-air and online at WTHR!

Here’s the pic I shared today in our noon show: it’s a gorgeous black & white shot from Megan Stevens of her kids yesterday walking the Monon Trail in Sheridan.  What a way to capture the Hoosier spirit!

Last night on the Nightbeat after the football game, Susanne Daniels’ pic of her “Little Hoosier” covered up in leaves was the featured Hoosier Pic.  Susanne says they had a ton of fun playing in the leaves yesterday in Irvington!  I love her little girl’s expression…priceless!

I know it’s dreary and rainy out there in parts of Indiana today – but if you feel inspired to snap a pic, post it on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email it to us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!

Got a Pic to Share? Submit Your Pic to be our Hoosier Pic of the Day!

Welcome to a brand-new feature called “Hoosier Pic!”  We would love to see your best shots!  It’s easy.  See something picture-worthy, snap a pic, and send it to us here at WTHR!  You can post it on our facebook wall: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13 or email it to us at pix@wthr.com.  Make sure it’s a pic you took today…of people, places, weather, or whatever here in the Hoosier state!

The pic I picked today was one that I shot this afternoon at White River State Park.  I absolutely love the Indy skyline and never get tired of seeing it or photographing it!  I’ve been a shutterbug since I was a little girl.  I have my mom to thank for that!  She enrolled me in a photography summer camp when I was in middle school.  I started with a little camera that shot on 110 film, graduated to a 35mm point and shoot, and got my dream camera in college – a Minolta SLR.    That was great for awhile, but digital was new and exciting.  So my first 2 digital cameras were Sony Cybershots…I think the first took 3.2 megapixel images, at the time quite a feat!  Now I don’t go anywhere without my DSLR and camera phone.  And sometimes I borrow my husband’s camera that also shoots video.  He teases that we could probably make a “day in the life” album of our daughter because I really, truly, honestly have probably taken at least one pic of her every single day of her 4 years!  For me, photography, like weather, is a passion I love to share.  I hope you will too!

So I want to see some of your pics!  Once they’re emailed to us at wthr, they’ll be added to our photo gallery on wthr.com: http://iwitness.wthr.com/.  Don’t forget to tell us your name and where the pic was taken along with any important details (i.e. this morning tailgating before the Colts game).  That way, we can credit you online and on-air!

Have a great evening!
