Light Snow on the Way

Today will be dry, but tonight light snow showers move into Central Indiana.

Highs will reach the upper 30s to low 40s today with increasing clouds.

The snow holds off until after 9pm.  Light snow showers are expected after that, through the Friday morning commute.  The metro area can expect to see 1/2″ of snow up to 2″ of snow.  Our Northern viewing area can expect up to 3″ of snow.  This won’t be a huge snow maker, but the timing of the storm during morning rush hour will likely create slick spots and problems on the roadways.

Behind the snow is very cold air.  Highs Friday will only reach the low 30s… and Saturday morning we start off in the teens.

The weekend is dry and our next chance for rain moves in Wednesday.  Yep, at this time, it looks warm enough for rain.  We’ll keep you posted if that changes as we get closer to the middle of next week.

Chilly Temps and Tracking Snow

Chilly temperatures have settled into Central Indiana, and it’s going to get even colder over the next few days before warmer weather returns.

Chilly temperatures have settled into Central Indiana, and it’s going to get even colder over the next few days before warmer weather returns.

Highs today will hit the upper 30s with a mix of sun and clouds and a light breeze out of the Northwest up to 10mph.

Overnight, partly cloudy skies will stick around as temps drop to the low to mid 20s.

Thursday looks dry with sunshine and highs in the upper 30s.

Late Thursday night into Friday morning snow showers are possible.  At this time, 1-3″ of snow is possible, especially in our Northern counties.  The track of this system will more than likely change before Friday morning, so stay tuned to the forecast, because your Friday morning commute could be slick.

Behind that chance for snow is very cold air.  Highs Friday will only hit the low 30s, and Saturday morning Central Indiana will be waking up in the teens.

The weekend looks dry, but cold!

Rain Moving in Overnight

Rain is moving in tonight and it looks like a wet end to the weekend in unavoidable.  Some areas could be looking at heavy rain the next couple days…including here in Central Indiana.  Want to know what to expect?

Temps: We hit 54 Saturday, may still manage 50s Sunday, then cold temperatures will rule the rest of the week.  We may only make 20s for highs a week from today!

Rain: All rain Sunday – up to ½” possible.  Another ½” possible Sunday night and maybe up to 1” on Monday.  Totals of 1-2” in Central Indiana, but 2-4” in Southern Indiana  where some Flood Watches have been posted.

Mix or Snow: Areas in Northwest Indiana could start to see some rain/snow/sleet as early as Monday morning.  It looks like Central Indiana will be too warm at that point.  By late Monday night, the rain/snow line may dip into Central Indiana – but by then it doesn’t look like much moisture will remain, so I don’t anticipate anything big.  There might be some leftover flurries Tuesday along with colder air.  Wednesday’s very uncertain.  At one point, some of the computer models were suggesting accumulating snow potential midweek.  Now they appear to be backing off that idea. I’m holding onto a 20% chance of snow for now, so we’ll see!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend even with the rain,

Weekend Warmth, Wind, and Wet Weather

“W” is the letter of the day here in the weather department!  Seems the weekend is shaping up to be “warm” and “windy”, then “wet”.  The big question, though, is will it then turn “white” for the “workweek?”

My 2 cents right here:

The Weekend: The weekend starts off warm, windy and dry tomorrow with highs more than  10 degrees above average!  By Sunday morning, rain moves in along with cooler temps.  We could get up to ½” of rain Sunday.

Next Week: Colder air moves in with highs struggling to reach 40 Monday and only in the 30s for the rest of the week.  It’s still a fairly low-confidence forecast, but there might be some rain/snow mix early Monday morning before it gets warm enough for rain.  Then both Tuesday and Wednesday will be some of the coldest air this season and if there’s any moisture that moves in (some computer models say yes, others are dry), a wintry mix or light snow could be possible.  It could get interesting!

Have a fantastic weekend!  If you’re in town for the Big 10 Championship, hope your team wins and enjoy our beautiful Circle City!

Warmer, Then Wetter This Weekend

The cold eases this weekend, but our dry stretch will also come to an end.  Here’s what to expect in Central Indiana:

Temps: It won’t be quite as cold tonight as last  – high clouds are a little thicker moving in overnight ahead of a cold front that will pass through dry tomorrow.  Seasonable temps for Friday, then unseasonably warm 50s along with breezy conditions on Saturday….the warmest day of the week!

Precip: Dry ‘til late night Saturday night into early Sunday when rain moves in.  Could see up to 1” – especially in Southern Indiana.   Can’t rule out some wet flakes mixing in with rain Sunday night/early Monday – but shouldn’t be enough moisture or cold enough to accumulate.  Monday looks like showers in Indy possible with steadier rain to the south, then Tuesday a cold shot of air plus a little shot of moisture could induce some snow showers & flurries – wouldn’t be shocked by a dusting out of that if it pans out.  And one computer model lingers some flurries on Wednesday.  No big snows lurking anytime soon.

50-50 Weekend: Dry, warm and breezy Saturday, Wet, cooler and dreary Sunday

Have a good one!
