Flood advisory for Indy metro area today

Posted By · December 21, 2011 at 7:49 am

What a day, with heavy rain early this morning and a dense fog advisory for the western half of Indiana until 10 am. We also had 18 districts with delays today.

Look for a pop up shower today but highs in the low to mid 50s.  We had quite a start with a half inch of rain falling in 40 minutes downtown in Indy this morning between 3:15 and 4 am.

Could we see snow for Christmas? Probably not. A little rain/snow mix is possible Saturday but that will be the extent of it.

By the way, there is a flood advisory for the Metro area this morning due to the heavy rain and saturated ground. Be careful driving and have a wonderful day.

Is this December?

Posted By · December 20, 2011 at 9:43 am

What a day! At this time last year we were experiencing more than 3 and ½ inches of snow. This year it is all rain.

Even though a rain and snow mix fell in northern counties this morning, we will see scattered showers today and tomorrow with just an isolated shower Thursday. Look for highs in the mid to upper 40s today through Thursday and if you are looking for snow for Christmas, don’t get your hopes up. We could see a rain and snow mix Saturday but probably nothing that will stick on the ground.

Rainy Weather Gets Ready to Settle In

Posted By · December 19, 2011 at 6:19 am

Get the rain gear out, and be prepared to keep it handy through Wednesday.

Highs will reach the mid 40s today with wind gusts up to 25mph.  Scattered showers will develop as we head into the afternoon.

Tonight, rain is likely as temps stay nearly steady in the low 40s.

Tuesday, highs hit the upper 40s and more scattered showers are in the forecast.  The rain continues Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  When we add everything up, it looks like up to 1″ of rain will be possible across Central Indiana through Wednesday morning.

Another slight chance for rain/snow moves in Thursday.

Will we see a white Christmas?  Saturday a rain/snow mix is possible, and could turn to light snow Saturday night.  Keep a close eye on the forecast… the weather models are not consistent right now, and we will keep you updated!

Patchy Fog & Sunshine

Posted By · December 18, 2011 at 6:36 am

Patchy freezing fog is possible this morning, so use extra care as you head out and about!

The fog will lift by late morning, and sunshine will take over.  Highs today will reach the mid 40s.

A big change moves in Monday with rain developing and moving in.  Highs will stay in the mid 40s through Wednesday, but keep the rain gear handy.  When it’s all said and done Central Indiana could pick up up to 1″ of rain.

We’re dry Thursday… then Friday a 20% chance of sprinkles or flurries.

Right now, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look dry with highs in the upper 30s.

Flurries Today & More Rain for Next Week

Posted By · December 17, 2011 at 6:26 am

Flurries are possible north of I-70 today, and we’re tracking more rain for Central Indiana next week.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected today with highs in the upper 30s.  A few flurries are possible north of I-70.

Tonight, the clouds break and lows drop into the mid to upper 20s.

Sunday, the sun is back, and highs warm into the mid 40s.

With temps above average, rain looks likely early next week.  Up to .50 to 1″ of rain is in the forecast Monday through Tuesday, with the bulk of the rain falling Tuesday.  A few wet snowflakes may mix in early Wednesday morning before the system moves out.

Thursday looks dry, with a chance of rain/snow mix Friday.

As of right now, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look dry.  That can change!  We’ll keep you posted!

The Chill Settles In

Posted By · December 16, 2011 at 4:59 am

It’s here!  Goodbye mild weather… hello chilly temps!

Thursday’s high topped out at 62 degrees!  Today… we’ll only make it to the upper 30s!  A mix of sun and clouds is likely with a light breeze out of the Northwest up to 10mph.

Overnight, partly cloudy skies stick, and temps drop to the mid 20s.

Saturday and Sunday will be dry, however, more sunshine will be with us on Sunday, along with warmer temps.

Our next chance of rain moves in Monday and Tuesday.  Tuesday into Wednesday a wintry mix could develop, so we’ll keep a close eye on the forecast!

Falling Temperatures and Spotty Showers

Posted By · December 15, 2011 at 5:03 am

Enjoy the warmth this morning… temps fall during the day, and much chillier air settles into Central Indiana.  More than an inch of rain has fallen across Central Indiana.

Temps are near 60 this morning, but by the drive home, will only be in the 40s.  Scattered showers are likely through noon with wind gusts up to 35mph.

Overnight, much colder air settles in as temps drop to the upper 20s.  Patchy fog will be possible.

Friday through Sunday sunshine and temps around 40 degrees!

Another rainmaker moves in late Monday and sticks around through Wednesday, we’ll have to watch to see if a rain/snow mix is possible for the middle of next week.  Stay tuned!
