Life Through A Microscope

Posted By · October 21, 2009 at 2:59 pm

There are millions of things we miss everyday because they’re too small to see.  I’m sure it’s a good thing we don’t see the germs that are on our keyboards, or the mouse you’re touching right now… eek!

But, there are beautiful things the naked eye misses!  Nikon has just released photographs from their 35th Small World competition.  Click here to see the photographs through a microscope, you won’t be disappointed.

Under the Weather

Posted By · October 21, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Under the weather… boy, does that apply to me.  Well, technically it applies to my voice.  If you’ve tuned into Sunrise this week, you may have noticed something missing from Eyewitness News, my voice.

I feel fine, but my voice has decided to take a vacation.  There is nothing more frustrating than having to talk for a living, and not being able to!  Just work for two minutes for a weather forecast, please!

I’ve been doing everything, chicken noodle soup, hot tea with honey and lemon.  And, it’s still on a beach somewhere.  I’m willing to take any suggestions!  One viewer suggested adding a little Jack to my tea!

The good news in this whole situation?  At least I don’t have a black cloud following me.

Nerdy Number Crunching

Posted By · October 21, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Highs are expected to hit the low to mid 70s across Central Indiana today.

This will be the first 70 degree day we’ve had in October!

The last time we were in the 70s was back on September 27th.

In Indianapolis for the first 18 days of the month, we are tied for the 2nd coldest start to October on record.  And, it’s the coldest start since 1987.

On October 18th we tied a record for the coldest high temperature of 44 degrees that was set back in 1875.

I wish I could say our streak of 70 degree days was continuing, but unfortunately, the temperatures will once again come crashing down.  Rain moves in tomorrow with highs only around 50 degrees by Saturday.  I guess we’ll take what we can get!

The 70s are Back!

Posted By · October 21, 2009 at 10:41 am

Highs today will reach the low to mid 70s with mostly sunny skies.  Talk about an incredible day ahead!  It’s going to be a bit breezy with winds out of the South up to 15 mph, but that’s what’s pumping the warm air our way!

Tonight, we cool off to around 50 degrees with partly cloudy skies.

Thursday is a day of change across Central Indiana.  At this point it doesn’t look like the day will be a complete washout, but the best time to stay dry will be in the morning.  Highs will still reach the mid 60s, but rain and scattered thunderstorms move in for the afternoon.

The rain will continue through Friday, as temps drop to the low 60s.

For the weekend a few rain showers could be left over Saturday with a high only around 50 degrees.  I guess it’s back to Fall reality!  Sunday we’ll start to warm up a bit into the mid to upper 50s, and also start to dry out.

Woo-Hoo! Mild Temps Move In

Posted By · October 20, 2009 at 8:58 am

Highs today will reach the mid to upper 60s across Central Indiana with partly cloudy skies.  It won’t be as windy today, but a breeze out of the South up to 15 mph will continue to pump warm air into the area.

Tonight, it won’t be chilly, as a few clouds stick around and lows drop into the mid 40s.

Here’s the good news for tomorrow… most spots look to hit the low 70s!  It will be breezy with wind gusts up to 25 mph, but overall, a nice day is in store.

The change in the forecast comes Thursday when showers and thunderstorms roll in late in the afternoon.  Rain continues Friday and temperatures cool down.  This weekend highs will only be in the 50s.

So, make sure to enjoy this brief warm up while it’s here!

It’s About Time!

The average high this time of year is 65 degrees.  Today is the 23rd day in a row that we’ve been below average, but we’re ready to break that streak this week!  Highs today will reach 60 degrees.  We’ll see breezy winds out of the South, at times gusting up to 25mph.

Tonight, temperatures won’t be as cold, under partly cloudy skies dropping to the low to mid 40s.

Here’s where the nice weather really begins!  Highs tomorrow will reach the mid 60s, and Wednesday we’re aiming for 70!

Our next chance of rain develops Thursday.

Warmer Weather on the Horizon

Posted By · October 18, 2009 at 10:07 am

A cold start for Central Indiana today!  Temperatures are in the mid 20s and 30s.  Once the sun pops up we’ll see a nice warm up.  Highs will reach the low to mid 50s across the area today with mostly sunny skies.  A few clouds are possible this afternoon, but other than that, a nice day is ahead.

Tonight won’t be as cold as lows drop to the mid 30s under mostly clear skies.

If you’re ready for even warmer temps, they are right around the corner.  Monday highs reach about 60 degrees, and Tuesday that goes up to the mid 60s.  But wait… Wednesday… we could hit 70!

We stay dry through Wednesday, our next chance for rain moves in Thursday.
